Two More New

Apple on Tuesday introduced new models of its consumer-level MacBook and high-end MacBook Pro notebook computers. Both product lines feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo Penryn processors, Prices for the MacBook start at $1,099. The MacBook Pro is available at speeds of 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz with prices starting at $1,999.

Skeleton Key

Joris Laarman designed this line of furniture, which mimics the structure of bones. Though partially hollow, these form a strong, almost architectural matrix of support. This polished aluminum chair was created using software that mimics the process by which bones grow over time.

Echolocation

Sound Foresight was set up in 1998 by researchers at the University of Leeds, to develop the UltraCane for vision impaired people. A great deal more development has gone into the product since, with feedback from vision impaired testers at every stage.

Ilana Brito, a graduate student in biology, and her nine teammates in the MIT Cycling Club performed two runs on their bike generators in the lobby of MIT's Krazy Klown funhouse style Stata Centre computing campus earlier this month.

The athletic brainboxes' first effort was an attempt to win the "Innovate or Die" contest, a joint effort between everyone's favourite bot-on-bot ad broker Google and Specialized cycles. The idea of Innovate or Die is that humanity will become extinct unless it finds alternatives to fossil fuel power generation; and further, that human-powered solutions involving bicycles could be of significant help in this.

The watch features a GPS receiver, which allows the unit to send your position to rescuers over the built-in GSM / GPRS data module. Of course, that's not a new idea either, but Aerotel's included speakerphone functionality and remote programmability to the device -- meaning everyone will know exactly where you are when you look like a giant nerd using this thing.
