We're bidding adieu to 2007 with a look back at the breaking news, the big events and the must-have gadgets that captivated us this year (give or take a few weeks; we compile this list by early December). To get a glimpse of what's been on our collective consciousness, we mined billions of search queries to discover what sorts of things rose to the top. choi's furniture demonstrates the intent of an artist creating furniture, rather than a designer just adding artistic touches to pieces of furniture. his work appears fluid and improvised, acting on an emotional level while still fulfilling the functional requirements. choi tries to anticipate changes in taste, working free from the current trends. his aesthetic evolved slowly over-time, while remaining simple enough to maintain a timeless quality. by borrowing from the past, both locally and from cultures abroad, choi reinterprets exiting ideas, building on them and modernizing them in his own way.

Science & Sons/iPod Styling Speakers

The patent pending Phonofone II is a passive sound amplification device that uses the earbuds from your iPod to send the sound through its ceramic horn that has the ability to play at levels up to 55dB. Science + Sons claims the Phonofone II can reach the same volume levels as a pair of laptop speakers, which isn't going to impress the kids, but you'll sleep better knowing that you are saving power

Why Design ?

was born in paris in 1949.
inspired by his father, who worked as an aircraft designer
starck spent his childhood under his father's drawing boards,
sawing, cutting, gluing, and sanding, dismantling bikes,
motorcycles and other objects.
from the mid-sixties, starck attended the ecole nissim de camondo
in paris, and he set up his first company in 1968 to produce
inflatable objects. in the 1970s he fitted out the paris night-clubs
la main bleue (1976) and les bains-douches (1978).
french president francois mitterand assigned him to decorate a
suite in the elysée palace in paris in 1982.
since then he has reached a phenomenal international
reputation in hotel interiors, furniture design and domestic products.
in 1984 he designed the interior of the café costes in paris,
along with those of other establishments, such as the manin in
tokyo (1985) and teatriz in madrid (1990).
he has also designed a number of private dwelling houses and
apartment blocks, commercial premises. in paris a whole street block,
la rue starck, is going up to his designs (1991).
philippe starck may be the most famous and prolific designer alive.
his desire for transgretion and challenge, of aesthetic and cultural
provocation made him change our lamps, door handles, cutlery,
kettles, vases, clocks, scooters, motorcycles, desks, beds, taps,
toothbrushes, baths, toilets… in short, our whole life.

Trilobis 65 has been designed on four separate levels connected by a spiraling staircase.

The top level is 3.5 metres above
sea level. The next level is at 1.4 metres above sea level and hosts the daylight zone with all services and allowing outdoor access. The third level is situated at 0.8 metre below sea level, semi-submerged, and is devoted to the night-time zone. At 3.0 metres below sea level, totally submerged, there is the underwater observation bulb, an intimate and mediative place.

mario bellini is also renowned for his work as a designer (he begun in 1963 and
culminating in 1987 with the personal retrospective at the museum of modern art
in new york, since the ‘80s, he has been increasingly successful in the field of architecture in europe, japan, the united states, australia and the arab emirates).
